Should You Hire Someone to Build Your Real Estate Photography Website?

As real estate photographers, having a strong online presence is crucial for attracting new clients and showcasing our work. Your website, which acts as your portfolio and a place to offer clients your services, is arguably the most important aspect of your online presence.

If you’re considering building a real estate photography website, you may be wondering if it’s worth it to hire someone to do it for you. In this article, we’ll explore the pros and cons of hiring a professional to build your real estate photography website, and help you determine if it’s the right choice for you.

The Importance of Real Estate Photography Websites

Your website is one of your biggest assets as a real estate photographer. It’s a place where you can send all your clients to see your services, your portfolio, and a way to land new clients.

It’s so much more than just a place to display your photos though. Here are 5 reasons that your website is one of your most important assets:

  1. A website makes it easy for potential clients to learn more about your services, pricing, availability, skill level, areas covered, and so much more. It’s a single place to offer all information about your business to possible clients.

  2. A website can help you establish credibility and professionalism in the eyes of potential clients. A good looking website is a great marketing tool.

  3. A website allows you to reach a wider audience, as it can be accessed by virtually anyone. Without a website, you are relying only on word of mouth or social media.

  4. A website can help you stand out from the competition by showcasing your unique skills and services, especially if you display them on your site in a unique way.

  5. A website can help you build your brand and establish a strong online presence, which is increasingly important in today’s digital age.

Building Your Own Site vs Hiring Someone

Of course, there are pros and cons of hiring someone to build your real estate photography website for you.

For what it’s worth, I believe there are more pros than cons for having someone build your real estate photography website. It all really comes down to how confident you are in your own abilities.

I built my own site on Squarespace, and although I love it now and it works great for me, it took years of redesigning and retooling to get it to this point. It’s likely hiring a professional would have cut that timeframe by a lot.

Pros

  1. Expertise: A professional website developer has the skills and knowledge to create a visually appealing and user-friendly website that meets your specific needs and goals. They can also ensure that your website is optimized for how your specific business is run, which is extremely helpful.

  2. Efficiency: Building a website can be a time-consuming process, especially if you don’t have much experience or haven’t built any websites before. Hiring a professional can save you a lot of time and allow you to focus on other aspects of your business.

  3. Quality: A professional can help you create a high-quality website that reflects your brand and showcases your work in the best possible light. This can be especially important if you’re trying to attract high-end clients.

  4. Customization: A professional can help you create a fully customized website that is tailored to your specific needs and goals. This can include features like custom galleries, contact forms, and integrations with other tools or platforms like Aryeo.

Cons

  1. Cost: Hiring a professional to build your website can be expensive, which easily makes cost the largest con. If you need a fully customized site with advanced features, the price can really start to climb. This may not be a feasible option for everyone, especially if you’re just starting out or have a limited budget.

  2. Loss of control: When you hire a professional to build your website, you may have to rely on their expertise and vision, which can be difficult if you have a specific idea of how you want your website to look and function. However, if you’re a great communicator and they are open to working with you, then it might not be an issue.

  3. Maintenance: If you hire a professional to build your website, you may be responsible for maintaining it and making any necessary updates or changes. This can be time-consuming and may require additional investment if you don’t have the necessary skills or resources. However, many web designers do offer ongoing customer service, so just make sure to confirm this before hiring someone.

Should You Hire Someone to Build Your Real Estate Photography Website?

Deciding if you should hire someone to build your real estate photography website or build it yourself depends on your specific needs, goals, and abilities.

If you have the time, skills, and resources to build a website on your own, or if you prefer to have more control over the design and functionality of your site, then doing it yourself may be the right choice.

However, if you want a high-quality, fully customized website that showcases your work in the best possible light, or if you don’t have the time or expertise to build a website yourself, then hiring a professional may be the way to go.
